The Vicar of Dibley is a British sitcom which originally ran on BBC One from 10 November 1994 to 22 January 1998, with three sets of specials in the Winters of 1999/2000, 2004/2005 and 2006/2007.

A fictional small Oxfordshire village called Dibley is assigned a female vicar, Geraldine, following the 1992 changes in the Church of England that permitted the ordination of women.

Following the opening credits of each episode there is usually a humorous village scene, for example a woman knitting straight off the sheep, or a man falling off a roof.

At the end of each episode, after the closing credits, Geraldine tells a joke to Alice, who usually fails to understand the humour and tries to interpret the joke literally.
